Chat & Models
Each conversation has its own model, context, and project — so different work never bleeds together.
Conversations
- New chat: Ctrl+N. Focus the message box with Ctrl+L.
- Organize: right-click a conversation to rename, pin to top, move to a folder, or delete. Pinned chats must be unpinned before they can be deleted.
- Folders can carry a name, color, description, a default model, and a default project — new chats in that folder inherit them.
- Per-conversation isolation: every chat keeps its own model, context, and agent state, and running tasks continue if you navigate elsewhere.
Choosing a model
Press Ctrl+M to open the model switcher. It searches the catalog, supports favorites, and groups models by provider.
Fast & cheap
Frontier
Set the model new chats start with in SettingsModels. You can also mark favorites with a note and category, so your go-to models are one click away.
Different models for different jobs
Under SettingsModels you can assign a model per agent role — used by teams and group chats. Toggle a role off to fall back to the chat's own model.
| Role | Used for |
|---|---|
| Code Agents | Coding, implementation, debugging, testing |
| Research Agents | Analysis, investigation, architecture, planning |
| Review & Supervisor Agents | Code review, QA, team coordination |
| Vision Agents | Screen analysis, screenshots, UI inspection |
| General Agents | Fallback for anything that does not match a role |
Context cost mode (also in Models) controls how aggressively WindOp trims what it sends each turn to save tokens.
Providers
- OpenRouter is the default gateway to hundreds of models. See SettingsOpenRouter for routing, reasoning, and media generation options.
- Claude Code and Codex can appear in the model picker if you use those subscriptions. Their chats use your subscription limits and show cost as “Subscription”, never “free”. See MCP & Integrations.
- WindOp credits (Pro) route through WindOp so you need no key. See Account & Billing.
Messages, attachments, and reasoning
- Attach files or a whole folder with the paperclip in the message box, or paste from the clipboard (a preview appears first).
- Favorite prompts are one click from the message box; manage them in SettingsPersonalization.
- Reasoning from thinking models streams as a “Thought” block and collapses when the answer finishes.
- Smart Prompt (SettingsGeneral) can clarify vague messages and show an Original vs Enhanced comparison before sending. It can be set to send rewrites without a preview.
- Run in background lets a long task continue while you keep using the app.
Context and long conversations
Very long chats get slower and costlier. WindOp summarizes older turns while preserving decisions and tool results, but for unrelated work it is best to start a new chat. See the Memory System for what carries across chats.
Rule of thumb
Use a fast model to explore and a frontier model to decide. Switch mid-conversation with Ctrl+M.What's next
